French Incubators for Start-ups Introduce Themselves

Location: Hall 1.1, Booth 201a+b

France is breaking new ground in tourism – two incubators for developing young tourism start-ups will present themselves as part of a press conference on 8 March 2017 at 2 p.m. at the French stand at the ITB Berlin 2017, Hall 1.1, stand 201.

  •  Welcome City Lab – the support centre of Parisian start-ups will introduce its action plan for 2017.
  • France Tourisme Lab – launched just last December – will introduce itself to an international audience as a French network for boosting tourism start-ups.

Welcome City Lab gives young, innovative start-up companies in the tourism sector new incentives, and is the first incubator in the world in the tourism sector. The goal of the founders Paris & Co as well as 15 partners is to reinvent the tourism of the future. The French capital, the most popular travel destination in the world, aims to play a leading role in the field of tourism innovation. The new platform supports young start-ups and companies working in tourism.

The French ministry responsible for tourism, Direction générale des entreprises, chose Berlin to present for the first time France Tourisme Lab, the network of the French incubator and support centres. France Tourisme Lab is a high-powered network that is expected to generate synergies between innovative tourism companies worldwide. Since its founding in December 2016, it has already brought together 10 incubator centres, among them Welcome City Lab. At the ITB Berlin France Tourisme Lab will present itself on an international stage.

Cruise Ship Tourism on the Danube – An Asset for the Region?

Location: R2, Level 3, CityCube Berlin

The Danube is the river that is most heavily frequented by cruise ships in the world. The desire to take a Danube cruise is a top priority for many cabin cruise guests. The study presented for the first time as part of the press conference will extensively highlight the most important aspects of cabin ship cruises on the Danube.

The study investigated questions such as: What are the motives of the guests for booking land excursions? What are the criteria for a land excursion that guests feel to be perfect?

An expert survey within the context of the study furthermore provides information about where travel is headed on the cabin cruise market, what the trends are and what criteria do cruise lines use to select their programmes? A special focus of the study was placed on the value chain and the economic effects of shopping at regional suppliers or land excursions.
